More about this list
A chess club in the Klang Valley is more often a team of organisers than a room where boards are set out every evening, so the clubs here are known by the events they run. Chess Hub in Ampang holds numbered classical weekends, the Malaysian Chess Federation’s office in Taman Equine, Seri Kembangan, hosts a monthly Grand Prix circuit, Kelab Catur Melati numbers its KCM Master classicals, and YCM at the Kemuncak Club House in Shah Alam runs junior events and a monthly medal series.
Universities add their own clubs and societies: Universiti Malaya, IIUM in Gombak, Sunway University, Taylor’s Lakeside Campus and the computing faculty of UiTM Shah Alam all organise opens or closed championships, as do the chess club of SK Bukit Kemuning (2), Kelab Kilat Kuala Lumpur and the Putrajaya association. The Royal Selangor Chess Club plays its closed invitation in its own room in Mont Kiara, and BFF Chess Club, with no room of its own, sets up in the food courts of Lotus’s stores, most often in Puchong. None of the pages read gives a weekly club evening that a visitor could simply walk into.
